Utd. Thrash Broadheath to Reach FinalCommunities United 7 - 1 Broadheath Merlins Saturday 14/04/07
Communities United under 10s put on the show of the season on Saturday to beat a team who contributed to them losing out on promotion. The last visit Broadheath made to Wilmslow ended in a 2-2 draw with United being unable to put their chances away. This game was a totally different affair. United were fitter, stronger and far better technically on this day when the visitors were unable to get a foothold in the game.
Looking at the score line you would not have expected it but it was actually the visitors who took the lead within three minutes. United started off slack and were punished by a shot which was low into the bottom corner past the helpless Thomas Taylor in goal. Once United finally got going, they were simply irresistible. The passing was crisp, the movement was good and their battling qualities really shone through.
United replied with an equalizer in the first third through the fantastic Joe Mooney and from then on the game really took off. Max Momber was playing at the back on his own and after a poor game last time out by his standards, he rose above everyone to take control of the game and drive his team forward into the final of the League cup.
United started firing shots in from everywhere now and the game was really starting to take its toll on the Broadheath players. Ollie Harrison fired one in and then Dean Musa added another to make the game 3-1 at the first break.
United were told to push on in the second third and push on they did, taking the lead to five in the second third through Joe Mooney and another from Ollie Harrison. During the second third Sam Brunt came on and what a game he had. Brunt was tearing around the pitch like a man possessed and was rewarded with a deserved goal in the final third.
This game ended in a 7-1 thrashing and now United look on to the final where they hope to meet the League runners up Fletcher Moss ‘B’. A fantastic game and a good boost for the FA cup home game against Ashton On Mersey next week.
