Utd. Drop Two Vital Points in Title RaceCommunities Utd. U10 1 - 1 Ashton on Mersey U10 Saturday 06/01/07
Utd. went back into league action this weekend with a 1-1 draw at home to Ashton on Mersey. A poor pitch may have contributed to the result with Utd. struggling to move the ball around.
The game started brightly for the home side and while they played the ball around confidently, they never really tested the opposition goalkeeper. The Utd. manager needed a rethink for the second third choosing to add a little pace and movement up front, in centre forward Sam Brunt.
The second third was starting to get scrappy now as the pitch deteriorated due to the weather. The first team to strike though was the visitors. Some slack defending from Utd. allowed space for the striker to poke the ball past a disappointed Thomas Taylor. Utd. were now looking shaky and were it not for the sweeping capabilities of the home goalkeeper Thomas Taylor, they could have fallen further behind.
Next to strike surprisingly though was the home side. Sam Brunt using his pace and ability was on to a through ball from Joe Mooney to finish confidently. That took Brunt’s tally to eight for the season now making him the clubs top goal scorer.
The final third was made an exciting one by the visitors. They came out and attacked the home side and Utd. had no reply to it. The pitch was now a mud bath and Utd. could not cope with the conditions until the last few minutes where they finally dominated but could not find a winner.
A fair result though for both sides but they know they have dropped vital points in the race for top spot. Next week they play away to local rivals Ryleys Nomads which guarantees to be a great game.
Goal scorer: Samuel Brunt
